Pale Ale
We brewed up a pale ale this afternoon, somehow we ended up a gallon short and with an OG of 1.064 instead of 1.053. We ran the mash runoffs into the kettle, boiled and returned it to the mash tun, also pitched on Merril's 1272 yeast cake that's been through a number of hoppy beers. Racked the graham cracker (aka cookie stank) porter to secondary and were attempting to wash the 1056 cake it left behind. I also managed to cut my thumb open on a growler shard.

parti-berrill at merrill's
had an extra day off work today, so i thought i'd try out my new equipment...even though it was 38 degrees and snowing. i made a parti-gyle batch- 5 gal barley wine with the first mash runnings (1st gyle), and a pale ale with the second runnings (2nd gyle). used the recipe from the parti-gyle episode of brewing tv.

my new mug from norther brewer |
ended up with an og1.101 on the barleywine (calling it 11lb. hammer), and og1.041 on the pale ale (calling it 11oz. mallet). I pitched that big-ass cake of wy1272 that I've been propagating into them, so there's plenty of little yeasts to do work on them. This will be rounds 4 and 5 for that same culture.
bake and i are also making a graham cracker porter tomorrow, got the wy1056 starter going.
