racking
last night we racked the chocolate coconut porter to a keg.
then racked the drunkin pumpkin ale to secondary.
leftovers from the pumpkin's secondary.
we were going to leave the porter on standby in a keg, but we coincidentally killed off the amber ale keg a little later.
the chocolate coconut porter has now taken home in the keezer and should be ready to drink in about a week. for now, were calling it "swayze". we were trying to decide between a few different names, but will make an official decision when its ready. the runners up:
"crazy for swayze" chocolate coconut porter
"im not johnny utah" chocolate coconut porter
"nobody puts porter in the corner"
"aloha bodhi" porter

wasatch - pumpkin ale
we had the coolest beer day ever yesterday. Kris' step dad knows Greg Schirf (Owner of Wasatch Brewery) and Cindi Jones (Sales and Marketing Director). He was able to work his magic and get us a tour of the brewery. Greg and Cindi pictured on the left and middle.
the remaining free beer. Organic Amber, Full Suspension, Evolution, Pumpkin Ale
Cindi showed us the grounds and introduced us to the Wasatch team. we met a few of the brewmasters, testers, fillers, and got to stick our heads inside a giant mash tun. the brewery was essentailly the same as an all-grain setup but with massive equipment and massive quantities. at the end of the tour, the owner of Wasatch came out of his office, shot the shit with us a few minutes, poured us a glass of Hop-Rising, then let us pick out four six-packs from their fresh selection of beer. super bad ass. and like dumbasses in awe, we forgot to take any pictures.
Wasatch Pumpkin Ale. Delicious.
the remaining free beer. Organic Amber, Full Suspension, Evolution, Pumpkin Ale
on our way back home we decided it would be a good day to brew our next batch, drunkin pumpkin ale, just in time for Halloween/Thanksgiving.
first things first, we tried out the Safety Champ Amber Ale. it tasted great.

rip broadzilla
i checked on the keezer this morning. as soon as i opened the lid i knew something was wrong. there was a beautiful yet gut wrenching smell in the air. that smell was the remaining broadzilla pale ale that had somehow forced its way through the kegs out post and onto the bottom of the keezer. great aroma, horrible site. luckly the keg was almost empty so only 3-4 beers were lost. here's all that was left inside the keg, about 1 inch of beer and sediment.
here is the last known picture of some broadzilla pale ale doin work. as you can tell by the picture, this beer was an easy 2 thumbs up. we will definitely be brewing this one again.
this was a horrible experience, but could also be looked at in a positive way. we brewed an amber ale (man-up princess amber) a few weeks ago and its been sitting in secondary waiting its turn in line. so today i moved the amber over to a newer keg and put on 10 lbs of pressure. it smelled delicious when racking.

brewing a chocolate coconut porter tonight. found a recipe online, made a few minor changes, added a tiny bit of coffee grains to hopefully give it a chocolately/coffee/coconut flavor. picked up most of the supplies yesterday, but still need to find some coconut flakes.
recipe:
Chocolate Coconut Porter
update. found the unsweetened coconut flake at harmons. "bob's red mill" to be exact.
