mythical beast explodes

came home from work the other day, went to check on the bier van mythische dieren. here's how it looked before i left for work, fermenting at a steady 64-66 degrees:

here's how it looked when i got back home. the entire lid on one bucket was blown off, the other airlock was fully clogged and on the brink of blowing as well.

i cleaned out the airlocks, spent about an hour wiping down the ceiling, walls, and everything else that was splattered with beer guts. luckily it was in the bathtub with the curtain closed, so the mess was fairly contained. fucken lucky i didn't take these ones upstairs to ferment closer to 68-70. when i woke up the next morning, another blow out happened. not nearly as bad this time, just some spew out the top of the buckets.

hopefully this beer isn't spoiled and will still turn out. only time will tell.

brewed up - bier van mythische dieren

we brewed up the berrillmaker bier van mythische dieren on 4/12/10. kris made this recipe available at brewmasters warehouse. Our OG was 1.64, slightly higher than we were hoping, so hopefully the little yeast will kick ass and take names. we got to test out the new hot liquor tank, sort of. im still waiting for the ball valves from morebeer so we basically used it as a water storage, but it was able to maintain the sparge water temp way better than the bucket we had been using. we also got to break in the new mash paddle, which mashes like a pro, and the brewmometer is beast. its pretty nice keeping temp on the fly.

hop sack didn't fall off this time. clips ftw!

kris also finished off his 5g of brew-yah stout.
